Sanderling with prized prey
This sanderling is taking off after having captured a sandcrab. You can see them going for sandcrabs when the run down to the base of a wave as it has receded after washing up the beach. This bird is carrying a large sandcrab, too big to eat immediately. When that happens other birds will chase trying to steal it. So this one is taking preemptive action, flying off before it loses its prey.
