Marbled Godwit bathing
At high tide, godwits often gather in roosts because their feeding areas are covered by water. As the tide begins to fall, but before their feeding areas are readily accessible, they bathe frenetically., wings flapping, birds leaping. This image captures a seldom seen feature: godwits and related birds can open the very tip of their beak upward, bending it using muscles that trace back to the birds ears.
