American Oystercatcher on patrol
I took this photograph on Deveaux Bank, South Carolina, the day after a multi-day wind and high tide flooding took out dozens if not hundreds of bird nests in May 2022. The bird was patrolling over the area where his nest had been prior to the storm, and it was very agitated by the continuing high waves, sweeping over the nesting site.
