Marbled Godwit gobbles lugworm
As the morning went on I witnessed godwits and willets catching multiple lugworms, which dig deep holes in the muddy/sandy substrate of the pond behind the beach berm. It took this godwit about 15 minutes to finally swallow the lugworm. Pulling it out of the substrate is always an effort because the worms have hooks on their exterior skin designed to resist pulling from above by predators.
