Sanderling hops up the beach
It had been roosting as the tide rose, and then a bigger wave came in and forced it to move up farther. If the threat is not extreme, the move is a series of one-legged hops. One-legged? If they've had time to settle down without disturbance they shift from a two-legged pose to a one-legged. Then the bigger wave comes in. And they have to move. This bird has two legs. One is hidden in its feathers.
