Semipalmated Plover flock
This flock of Semipalmated Plovers is leaving Limantour Spit as the tide recedes and uncovers mudflats in Limantour Estero. The semipalmation of the plovers feet has evolved so that the bird is less likely to sink deep in the mud as it is foraging.
If instead of just moving between habitats for better foraging opportunities they were being chased by a Peregrine Falcon, the flock structure would be much tighter.
