Heard often, but Rarely Seen
Wrentits live in brushy vegetation, especially chaparral, from northern Baja California to NW Oregon, and also along the western slope of the Sierra Nevada Mountains of California. Once you learn their song, which is unmistakable, you realize they are quite common. But you rarely see them. They are year-round residents throughout their range. I photographed this bird a few miles west of Bolinas, CA on Point Reyes. Their upwardly thrust tail is another one of their endearing assets.
